Gallery #9 - Nasir Thamir
The story of Scheherazade's tears was told to me in a painting and a poem, a painting and poem by a Baghdad artist by the name of Nasir Thamir, a painting Peat told me about and showed me in one of Nasir's brochures, a painting that moved me so much Luis and I spent 3 weeks trying to contact Nasir so I could see the real thing, and it was worth all the effort. Whilst in Samawa we met a Japanese photo journalist named Yoichi Watanabe, he came along to the one of the schools we performed at and took some photos, the best photos I've seen of us in action so far! Yoichi can be contacted at: watanabe@galax-lay.co.jp This was to be another show we had to cut short as the kids were just so excited we couldnt stop them surging forwards, leaving us with hardly any space to perform in! Copyleft artwork by Brazilian cartoonist Latuff, on behalf of brave Palestinian people and their struggle against U.S. funded Israeli occupation. Since September 28, 2000: • 383 Palestinian children (under the age of 18) have been killed by the Israeli army and Israeli settlers, i.e. almost 19% of the total Palestinians killed (figure at 21 November 2002); • Approximately 36% of total Palestinians injured (estimated at more than 41,000) are children; • 86 of these children were under the age of ten: • 21 infants under the age of 12 months have been killed: • 500 Palestinian children have been permanently disabled due to Israeli attacks.
